Lungs
I recently performed in first Thai production of Lungs by Duncan Macmillan. The show runs from February 7 - February 16. This was, by far, the hardest show I’ve ever done, but also the most rewarding.
“And I have to say, this kind of play is one that truly shines a spotlight on the actors—and both Thiptawan Uchai and Danainan Kridakorn Na Ayudhya, in the roles of W and M, go all in, fully unleashing their acting skills. They memorize half the script each, bringing intensity to their characters through a whirlwind of frantic, erratic, chaotic rhythms—jumping lines, tripping over each other’s words in a frenzy of back-and-forth exchanges.
And while, at first, their accents and delivery may be so overwhelmingly coated in a “buttery, milky” foreignness that it’s almost jarring, as they gradually unravel the situation, what initially feels artificial or unnatural transforms into something raw and real. The deeper you watch, the more you start to feel the creeping paranoia yourself, as you realize just how much mental illness impacts this couple’s choices, their ability to navigate life, and even their decision to have a child together.
So go and see for yourself how true professionals do it—taking a script that is, quite frankly, insanely difficult, and making it look effortless. With just the snap of a finger, the flick of a switch, they leap seamlessly into a new scene, a new emotion, a new problem—just like that!” - Kalapapruek
